Masjid-e-Qurtuba - Love Carved in Stone.
Size 16"x 20."
Masjid-e-Qurtuba - Love Carved in Stone pays homage to the timeless grandeur of the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. The painting invites viewers into its courtyard, where a still pond mirrors arches—symbols of love, devotion, and resilience etched in stone.
Courtyards have long been central to Islamic architecture. In Al-Andalus, each courtyard held its own ambiance, serving as a space for reflection, congregation, and harmony with nature—whether in mosques, palaces, or homes.
At the center stands the minaret, now a bell tower, silently witnessing centuries of change.
Inspired by Allama Mohammad Iqbal’s poem Masjid-e-Qurtuba, the painting echoes his lament for a place where the call to prayer has long been absent. The golden hues capture the radiant rise of Muslim Spain, while deep blues mark its decline—a visual ode to faith, transformation, and the enduring spirit of a civilization that once illuminated the world.
